Classes & Registration
Class time is so very important. Please make every effort to attend classes regularly.
Please have proper dance attire and hair pulled away from face.
Mondays:
Contemporary- 11:00-12:00
Contemporary class will include Lyrical, Theatre Jazz, and Hip Hop styles. Dancer must be enrolled in The Hive Academy of Dance Ballet class. Lyrical dance blends together Ballet and Jazz while emphasizing strength, control, and flexibility. Dancers will learn to express the mood or theme of the music and lyrics. Theatre Jazz tells a story with words, singing, and movement combined. Hip Hop provides an age appropriate experience of current popular dances and music. Classes will emphasize rhythm, strength, flexibility, and isolations of movement.
Ballet II/III- 12:00-1:00
Ballet II/III is appropriate for intermediate/advanced level dancers and offers a multi-level class with differentiated instruction. Dancers are placed at the teacher's discretion. Ballet is a classical form and foundation of all other forms of dance. Classes will emphasize technique and proper body alignment, as well as flexibility, strength, grace, coordination, musicality, and performance quality. Dancers will also study ballet terminology and history. This class is a prerequisite for Contemporary, Conditioning/Pre-Pointe, and/or Tap.
Conditioning/Pre-Pointe- 1:00-2:00
Teacher approval required. Dancer must be enrolled in The Hive Academy of Dance Ballet class. Dancers are NOT required to work toward dancing in Pointe shoes, and will significantly benefit from the exercises completed in class. This class will include exercises that will strengthen the dancer's feet, ankles, legs, and core with a strong emphasis on proper alignment throughout the body. Foot rollers, and resistance bands/loops will be required and used during class. Dancers with a working goal towards Pointe may take this as a Pre-pointe class. Training in Pointe begins only after a strong comprehensive understanding of Ballet technique has been developed and the feet, back, and legs are strong. The dancer will be placed in Pointe shoes at the teacher's discretion.
Tap II/III- 2:00-2:45
Tap II/III is appropriate for intermediate/advanced level dancers and offers a multi-level class with differentiated instruction. Dancer must be enrolled in The Hive Academy of Dance Ballet class. Tap dance has the dancer create rhythms and music with their feet. Tap helps to improve agility, timing, and coordination. Dancers will study basic tap steps and combinations with an emphasis on developing proper tap technique and producing clear tap sounds.
Tuesdays:
Creative Movement- 2:45-3:30
Ballet and Tap for our dancers ages 3-7.
Creative Movement introduces dancers to the dynamics of music and dance through movement and rhythmic exercises and games. Dancers will work on skills to include: hand/eye coordination, knowledge of right and left, balance, agility, and many more! This a combination class that will include Ballet and Tap.
Ballet I/Tap I- 3:30-4:30
Ballet I/Tap I is appropriate for ages 8+ who are beginner/intermediate level dancers and offers a multi-level class with differentiated instruction. Dancers are placed at the teacher's discretion. Dancers should wear proper dance attire* and hair that is pulled away from their face.
Buns are preferred, but a ponytail or a braid is allowed.
*Proper attire includes: leotards, form fitted shirt or tank, tights, dance skirt, dance shorts, dance leggings, ballet shoes (pink leather for girls/black leather for boys), black tap shoes. Proper attire allows us to move freely and see body alignment. No baggy clothing or street clothes allowed. This is for your dancer’s safety, and respectful to the discipline of dance. If a dancer is not wearing proper attire they may sit and observe class but may not dance.
Dancers should have their name written on all dance shoes, and will not wear dance shoes outside. This protects your shoes and our floors!
